Hi Folks!
I hope everyone’s day is going well. Mines been pretty good ☺ - I started the day not how I wanted. I was hoping to get up early and be out by 10ish. But alas I wasn’t. I had several weird awakenings during the night, the most interesting of which was this loud sound from the street at 3am. I thought at first when I heard it to be just some drunk kids and fell back asleep, but the sound worked its way into my dream and a half hour later I woke up again to it. This time I went to the window to see what was really making the sound, it was these 3 people, 2 women and 1 guy from the looks of it and this one woman in particular was going absolutely batshit crazy. Like she was fighting and yelling and just a mess. At one point she even like backed into a car and then started hitting the kicking the car and pushed the other two people away from her. And the sound was soo loud and like awful, it really sounded like a mad fit; maybe it was one of the crazies from next door, idk. But after like 5 or so minutes the wandered down the street still yelling and fighting. Hmmmmm?
And then I woke up around 9:30 and decided to just rest for 30 more minutes until it was really light out, that turned out to be an hour and a half. But yeah, I got up around 11:15ish and skyped and took a shower and decided that today I was going to do a walk in one of the oldest parts of Paris. Starting from the BelleVille metro stop and working my way up the hill to the top of the city and then back down again. That was the general idea, and hopfully find some really nice parks and such on the way. Also get food, I was soo hungry! So food was a priority.
I went off in to the Boulanger up next to Courvisart metro on the 6 only to find them sold out of my usual jambon fromage sandwich, which was disappointing, but anyways I continued to the station and found that next to the station on Sundays is a wonderful open market with wonderful EVERYTHING. It was just closing around 1:45 on Sunday so I didn’t get anything but I will go back next Sunday for treats. It smelled so amazingly good! So I continued to Belleville. I got out of the metro and of course walked down the wrong street at first, Im always so disoriented coming out of metros, so yeah as you’ll see on my map I backtrack and end make up on Rue de Belleville, which I read has the largest open market in the city on Tuesdays. So I might check that out also. Anyways I walk up the road for a while hoping to hit the park Belleville, which I hear is just stunning, but of course I miss that too (I would have found it except my guidebooks are too big for my back pocket, and since I like to travel light I never bring them or any maps for that matter HAHA, OOpps. But yeah I have fun anyways. Also in the past couple days Ive been taking pictures I actually like now, rather than just lame fun ones, and its making me feel a lot better that Im producing work. And today was one of the best walks I think. I got to see so many types of people and places. This part of Paris is definitely one of my favorite. As I was walking I thought it would be such a fun place to live. Its old and historic but also modern and lively. So anyways I continued for a while weaving in and out of side streets and main avenues and finally stumbled onto the park Parc des Buttes Chaumont. And this was such a beautiful little park. So full of people and life. It reminded me of central park in the spring. It was just about NYC spring weather and it was so full of the hustle and bustle. I took some time there and walked up the hill and people watched for a little bit. And as it started to get a little cooler I walked down back to the street. By this time I was ready to start working my way to a possible metro stop, and its so nice in paris because they are all over. So I just wandered and found some really cool little side streets and fun graffiti and such. As I got to the bottom of the hill I saw that I was approaching the water. Which was just beautiful and the sun was a perfect 4:00pm sun, harsh and shadowy and bright and yellow. So I took advantage and walked along the Quai Valmy up the river, which was a pleasant stroll and I saw that there was some metro looking building up at the top so I knew I was close. Just before the metro I did something that most will frown upon, but its my blog and my walks so you’ll just have to deal :p – I went to a French Mcdonalds. Yeah HA. But only to order a Royal with Cheese. And I know Im going to get shit for this from everyone, but really, that’s just too bad. I’ve wanted to since I saw Pulp Fiction and I did it and I wont do it again. My Royal Deluxe was not very good, it had some mustard sauce that was good, but the whole thing together was only OK, not recommended. So I got it out of my system!
OK, yeah so that was my day. I came home and rested and bit and edited photos (which Im really excited about today, I hope you all like them!). Im going to head off to bed in a few min, and I think for tomorrow, we have a free lab day, so Im just going to go in around 10/10:30 and dev my 120 film and maybe make some contact prints. Then hopfully I’ll be in the mood to shoot some 4x5, which I need to do badly, Ive been putting it off because Im not to keen on the developing situation here. But it is what it is. SO That’s my plan. And with any luck I’ll have some more work to show tomorrow!
For now, Goodnight ALL!
