So I know that I should have updated you all yesterday. But Im getting around to it today! Yesterday was our first real class and it was mostly as I had talked about earlier a demo day and a chance for the non majors to develop their first rolls of film. After the morning Bret and I went off in search of this photo store, “ProPhot” which we had thought to be in the bastille area, which it was we just went n all the wrong directions and never found it! That’s alright though, we figured it out later and hope to get there in the next day or so. Then back in class in the afternoon I got to develop film for the first time in a while! It was….Ummmm…very different from RISD. The darkroom and facilities at SPEOS are pretty outdated and its nothing fancy. I gathered that the school is in fact more of a technical school that focuses on digital photography and has a more commercial feel. This is fine as I am trying to mostly stick to a hybrid workflow – but I have concerns about the printer they have. I think, I maybe be wrong, but I think they only have 1 printer, and it sounds like their all very disorganized.
As a note, I should note this now because I feel its something that I thank risd for but also hate at the same time. I feel very strongly that the “adult” world is very disorganized. And at risd we may seem to be all over the place, but we really arnt. And this is only something I notice when I work outside of risd, whether is be an internship, job, or another school. People just seem to not get things done – and I know I will get shit from my father for not getting stuff done, but it always astounds me how much effort I have to put in for the simplest tasks to get done. Now this is just a rant, and has no real claim to what I was talking about before other than how does a photo school have only 1 decent printer?!? And why haven’t more people followed up on this?
That’s my rant for the night, let me get back to what I was saying before. So yesterday was fun. After class a bunch of us all got together and went out to this Canadian bar near the Odeon metro stop called “The Moose.” We had enough trouble trying to find it, we all knew sorta where it was, but not quiet. So we ended up breaking the group up and Jeff and I went off running around the blocks trying to find it and find our group again! HA – finally after like 20 min we asked some shop owner who pointed it out – not more than like 2 min away from the metro. It was a nice place, really comforting to be able to order in English and watch American football on tv for a couple hours! So that was fun – I think we’ll end up going back there a few more times before we leave ☺
Now as for today, it was pretty normal. I switched to the morning class group. So I generally wake up around 8:30 and get ready to leave by 9:30. Class then goes until 12:30ish. Today all I had to do was scan my few negs from yesterday and edit them up a bit to see how it all turned out (I was afraid the security in the airport would have ruined my film by scanning it. But its perfect! ☺). Also, the past few days I’ve had a really weird appetite, I haven’t really been eating breakfast or lunch much only because I haven’t been hungry and dinner I eat. But I feel my system hasn’t really adjusted to euro time and so today I felt kind of nauseous leaving class and really just needed to rest and eat But I wasn’t Hungry! Which really bothers me. So I got home and rested for a bit – found out that both NetFlix and Pandora don’t work here, which really bothers me too! But I listened to some KATG and it was better. I attempted to do some work this afternoon, but ended up skyping and eating. So today was kinda a bust – but it also was rainy and gross out for most of the day so I didn’t miss too much. I just looked and it suppose to be rainy for the next couple days but get really nice for the weekend and stay that way for a while – so I hope to get some good work done then. Until then I’ll focus on exploring new places and working on my French ☺
So I don’t have any new pictures for today since the 2 frames I worked on in class are on the computers at school – So I’ll post those tomorrow. And Hopefully I’ll get to go on a nice walk tomorrow morning – maybe snap some more.
Until then,
A Bientot!
